Piano and music theory course

Actualizado: hace 5 días

Iván Rolón

The piano and music theory course is designed to offer comprehensive musical training. By comprehensive, I mean the development of all the skills necessary to pursue independent musical practice without restrictions. This includes: music reading and writing, ear training, piano and vocal technique, instrumental and vocal practice, musical analysis, playing from memory, composition, sight-reading, and improvisation. This training is intended for those who wish to advance deeply, creatively, and independently in their musical and piano journey within a clear and progressive structure. For more information on course levels, objectives, content, methodology, and evaluation criteria, I invite you to read the comprehensive music training program upon which this course is based, which can be found at the following link.

The classes are personalized according to the age, level, needs, interests, objectives and preferences of each student, and are developed in a pleasant space. The classes are individual, and their recipients can be:

  • Children from 4 years of age

  • Youths

  • Adults, no age limit

The classes can be developed in two modalities:

  • Online: the advantages of online classes are that they can be carried out from anywhere without the need to travel and can be enriched by the interactive possibilities of digital platforms. To develop, it is necessary to have a space equipped with an instrument (piano or keyboard), a device that allows the transmission of audio and video, and an internet connection.

  • Face-to-face, at my home in Düsseldorf, Germany: The advantages of face-to-face classes are that they do not depend on connectivity and allow for more personal interaction. To develop, it is necessary to approach the classroom space.

In class, students play musical pieces from the very first day. These are presented through carefully arranged materials in a progressively increasing order of difficulty. To view the available materials, please visit the following link.

The course is divided into three levels, each of which contains four successive stages:

  • Basic (A1, A2, A3, and A4): intended for students who want to start studying piano or who have experience, but need to consolidate basic concepts and skills.

  • Intermediate (B1, B2, B3, and B4): intended for students who have developed autonomy in learning simple works and need accompaniment to solve medium-difficulty works.

  • Advanced (C1, C2, C3, and C4): intended for students who wish to start or are undergoing professional musical training, for example, at the university level, and need accompaniment in this process or wish to complement their training.

At the end of each of these stages, the student can choose to take a level completion test designed to consolidate the skills and knowledge acquired before continuing with the next one. If you have musical experience, you can also choose to take a placement test to decide on the right material before starting classes.

To learn more about the tests, I invite you to visit the following link.

As supplementary support, access is offered to an online piano and music theory course, with detailed explanations in text and video about the proposed content and activities. You can access this material by visiting the following link.

Additionally, on my YouTube channel you'll find supplementary resources, including educational materials and video tutorials of piano pieces, organized by difficulty level, style, composer, and country. This is designed to guide your repertoire selection and provide a model for approaching the music. Each video includes my audio performance, a video recording of my hands on the keyboard, and the synchronized score. The video descriptions provide a link to download or purchase the sheet music, along with a brief biography of the composer and a review of each piece.

In all modalities, the student will also have activities to do at home with material for self-correction, delivery for asynchronous correction, or synchronous correction in the next class, according to the student's preferences and the nature of the activity.

In classes aimed at children, it is recommended that an adult in the family participate in class if possible. The family's participation in class and weekly practice has the advantage that children get used to maintaining a study routine during the week, it is a pleasant activity to share with them and in parallel the companions also exercise musical skills. Families can opt for this possibility without a surcharge if they wish.

Prices vary according to the modality and duration of the class. The current rates are:

The class length can be 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes. 30-minute classes are best suited for children, especially in the 4-9 age range, 45-minute classes for youth and adults, and 60- and 90-minute classes for adults interested in intensive study with specific objectives.

The recommended frequency is one class per week, but they can also be held fortnightly, monthly, or twice a week, with rates proportional to those in force.

The payment options and promotions are as follows:

  • Monthly: This is a fixed monthly fee for weekly classes, which includes a 4-week break during the summer. This fee offers a 10% discount on the price of 4 classes. This includes 4 classes per month, meaning 48 classes per year, to be held weekly, regardless of the number of weeks in the month. The difference from the 52 weeks of the year is compensated for by the 4-week break.

  • 10-Class Package: This option includes a 5% discount on the price of 10 classes.

  • Per Class: Each class is scheduled freely. An invoice is issued after each class, payable in cash, by bank transfer, or PayPal within 14 days.
